The ICO has produced a useful and practical helpful blog on handling Subject Access Requests.

A Subject Access Request (SAR) is a request to an organisation from an individual for details of any personal information that the organisations stores relating to that person.

Individuals have the right to ask any organisation what personal information the organisation holds about them, how they are using it, who they are sharing it with and where they got that person's data from.

A SAR can be time-consuming to deal with, particularly when your data is in a paper format, however, these requests must be dealt with in a timely manner under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
